Week 5: Embodying Weave Structure, Making Switches
To kick off week 5, we studied reverse drafting. reverse drafting is exactly what it sounds like, drafting but in reserve. instead of the drafting and planning a weave prior to its creation, you take an already made swatch and then draft the weave structure. Above is the swatch used and its draft on the a drafting sheet.
Take note that only the drafting of the swatch began at weft 15.
Once completing the reverse drafting sheet, I was prompted to spend 2 hours listening to an album of my choice. The first album being 'Malibu' by Anderson paak. and the other 'my dark twisted fantasy' by Kanye. both polarizing to one another yet came through quite beautifully in the weaves.
The gallery of photos above shows you sections of my final swatch on the 8 shaft loom. Although it was totally an accident, the juxtaposition between the left and right side really relate to the polarity of paak. vs ye.
The right side representing 'Malibu' and the left my dark twisted fantasy. Right side shows balance, structure and in a literal sense, a ladder or pyramid of some sorts. Malibu is one of my favorite albums of all time as It captures a great balance of intensity and ambiance. in a classical sense, in relation to music development,  a very well done album. StARTING WITH 'THE BIRD' AND ENDING 'THE DREAMER', BOTH FANTASTIC OPENERS AND CLOSERS TO 'MALIBU'.
ON THE OTHER HAND, WE ANALYZE 'MY DARK TWISTED FANTASY' IS CHAOTIC AND ROUGH. THE JAGGED EDGES AND STRUCTURE OF THE THE LEFT SIDE COMPLIMENT THE ESSENCE THAT IS ONE OF KANYE'S MOST SUCCESSFUL ALBUMS.

Week 2: Make a Loom
Week 2 focuses on creating a make shift loom using a book and some other materials. Those materials will be listed and shown in the image below. SO what is a loom?
A loom is a machine used to create tapestry and cloth. A loom uses the same concept of warp and weft threads explained in the week 1 activity, Woven Textiles. Though Typically done on a larger and industrial type of machine, for this we'll simply be using a book and some varying utensils.

Materials need: Hardcover book, scissors, popsicle sticks, needles, 2-3 different types of yarns, and tape

The completed version of my book loom includes 4 different types of yarn, one being conductive thread which is intertwined with another yarn (should in the 2nd and 3rd image below). The Book loom process I mimicked can be found here:

Week 1: Woven Textiles
The button up is make from one of the most common woven fabrics, Twill! Twill is often woven with a weft thread over the warp thread or threads. This weaving process is done in a right angled ribbed pattern. This pattern is the visual indication of a woven textile.
